2016 Audi Q7

Audi has tuned up its already frugal version of 3.0-litre diesel engine and fitted it into its large off-road range, the all new Q7

Audi diesel engines are already very powerful and economical but every passing day comes with greater challenges like the higher fuel economy, low maintenance costs and friendly to the environment. Every auto manufacturer is putting in a lot of efforts to win the race of becoming the car of the year, delivering everything an owner wants in his vehicle.

Audi has been delivering plenty of wonderful vehicles to the world, namely the Audi A3 diesel, Audi 4 diesel, and the brilliant off-roader, the Audi Q7 diesel.

Already frugal engine gets more efficient

Audi engines, especially the diesel ones, are already frugal but they have now become more efficient to meet the requirements set forth by the European Union and other markets around the world. These engines have become greener and more eco-friendly. Previously, Audi was using a 3.0-litre engine which was capable of producing 272bhp and emitted 153g/km with a combined economy of 47.5mpg. It was priced around £50,340.

What has changed in this new engine then?

This new diesel engine has been extensively worked on and now it emits 148g/km of CO2 and returns and impressive 49mpg. But what will really break the heart of few of the Audi lovers is the power it generates, 218bhp, down from 272bhp. It’s a huge jump but still, the all-new Audi Q7 will remain a darling which is now priced at £47,755 and planned to go on sale in October this year.

What about the plug-in hybrid?

A plug-in hybrid version of Audi Q7 has been revealed earlier this year which is powered by a 258bhp 3.0-litre diesel engine and mated to a 94kW motor. It is backed by an eight-speed automatic gearbox. According to Audi, this hybrid version is capable of covering 34.8 miles, solely on electric power, which is a record in the segment. It will be emitting less than 50g/km of CO2 and will go on sale by the end of the year.
