German cars have always ruled the world saloon market and never left a space for other automakers such as Mazda 6 from the Japanese automaker. Mazda 6 has exclusively managed to capture a place in the world market of saloon cars.
With a 2.0 litre Mazda 6 petrol engine and a bunch of new technologies such as satellite navigation and sport Nav trim and it has exclusively rivalled the models like BMW 3 series, Ford Mondeo and Volkswagen Passat. Mazda has ace up its sleeves to rival the giants in the European and UK markets and introduced the 6 in the UK but with only manual option.
The Mazda 6 is only offered with six-speed manual transmission and 2.0-litre petrol engine. However, if you only like automatic gearbox then Mazda still has an option for you but it is a bit down on power. It is a 145bhp version that offers six-speed automatic transmission.
This 2.0 litre petrol engine is a good power unit and returns the sweetest part of its power from 4000 rpm where it starts developing 210Nm of torque and from 6000 rpm a hefty power of 156bhp. Unlike the rivals, this power is not supported by forced induction and feels some nippy on power generation.
When it comes to the performance on the road, new Mazda 6 saloon takes only 9 seconds to reach the benchmark speed of 62 miles per hour. On the fuel consumption, it feels more comfortable and happy with the light pokes of throttle and returns just under 50 miles per gallon.
With the careful driving, this economy figure can be even more polished. Carbon emissions in either way, low acceleration or by pushing hard, not less than 135g per kilometre that means a road tax or more than 100 pounds every year but for the company car drivers, it will be under £100 a month.
It is actually a great fun to have a seat behind the wheel of this saloon with a rotary note from the exhaust which sounds like a singing bird. With the 2.2-litre diesel engine, you will have two power outputs, a 148bhp and a 173bhp. Both are very fuel economical with the six-speed manual gearbox. Mazda 6 is capable of achieving more than 130 miles per hour with the claimed top speed of 134 miles per hour. When you opt for a six-speed automatic gearbox, many things changed immediately. Automatic gearboxes are slower on top speed and sip more fuel than normal.
Unlike the petrol engines of same size in the market, Mazda 6 petrol engines are impressive and offer a good grunt of power and deliver very smooth power which returns exclusively smooth ride, overtaking and pulling on the motorway speeds.
If petrol engines are your choice after the Mayor of London has decided to say good bye to diesel cars then this engine has second to none options and zero negative points with number of reasons to buy it as your next saloon.
