Nissan likely to use the Le Mans V6 engines for the new GT-R

Nissan has confirmed that the new radical Le Mans prototype will use a twin-turbo V6 power unit from Le Mans family. This V6 engine will crank out 1250bhp in total from a hybrid drivetrain.  The 3.0 litre V6 engine is a sort of fireball from hell; a true power house will go into the new GT-R.

The new engine is based on direct injection fuel and combustion technology to boost up the power delivery. It has an integration of turbo and intake system within the head assembly which is an interesting but highly capable setup for road cars.

The new Le Mans engine is a crazy performer while being super light, but the bad thing is that the engine has very short-lived power delivery. It revs similarly as other road cars – 6500rpm – and a true successor of the future GT-R cars.

The head of Nissan Le Mans prototype has explained how racing has helped the swift development of GT-R with Le Mans engines. According to him, Le Mans racing units are most reliable on the LMP 1 racers. He thinks that it is a very important development for racing.

It will bring racing the same power as the road car, which is around 550 bhp but burn about a third of the fuel required to get there.

He explains, “Actually it’s very important that things like racing do help change people’s perspective and that having a more fuel efficient car is better for the environment and less wasteful.”

The new structure that will come up with massive fuel economy and power, most likely be used a hybrid system. Chief Designing officer of Nissan Nakamura Shiro confirmed that the next GT-R is due somewhere in 2018.
