Police Fire RIV

After a huge cut in the budget, Northamptonshire Police has come up with a unique idea of rural intervention vehicle where they merged police vehicles with emergency vehicles.

What would you do if you are a police officer who faces a huge budget cut? You can quit or perhaps whine about it a lot, yes that’s what a common person would do. But what is highly unlikely is to come up with an idea of teaming up with your fellows at fire and rescue service and create a unique squad car which would serve not only as squad car but also a make-shift engine.

This newly emerged Rural Intervention Vehicle a.k.a RIV is going to be the ride of a police officer whose prime directive would be to patrol Northamptonshire for any dangerous situations while accompanied by a fireman who will be searching for emergencies of any sort, and they both will perform their duties at the same time in the same vehicle.

This new vehicle – equipped with the siren and a foldable ladder – is said to be a valuable asset which is capable of reaching the emergencies a lot faster than the traditional larger fire engines. If you are wondering how this vehicle would be able to withstand the blazing fires then chill out as it would not go into the blazes the way specially equipped vehicles do, it would just simply reach there faster than the rest of the services and assist the firefighters in neutralising potentially dangerous situations a lot quicker.

In the rural areas, this joint venture has been greatly appreciated by the local people. According to the District Commander Chief Inspector Dennis Murray, emergency services’ accessibility to the public has been improved with the use of this well thought-of scheme. Chief Superintendent Paul Fell on the other hand shared his views about this collaboration to be the best way of providing the services to the local communities in a more cost-effective way.
