The all new Vauxhall Corsa 1.3 CDTi Easytronic is hitting the UK road, it offers two automatic gearbox options to prove its worth over its petrol siblings.
The superminis with automatic gearboxes have always felt slow and heavy to drive and most of the people left them for good.
But surprisingly, during these recent year, the advancement in the automotive industry has given us mind-blowing technologies.
One of them is the introduction of dual-clutch automatic gearboxes, and when used in the superminis like the Ford Fiesta, Seat Ibiza, Skoda Fabia and Volkswagen Polo, they attracted a vast majority with their cost effectiveness and power.
Vauxhall Corsa is offering ‘Easytronic’ five-speed automatic gearbox on its 1.4-litre or 1.3-litre diesel engines.
Whereas the ‘torque convertor’ automatic six-speed gearbox is offered on the 1.4-litre petrol engine. Here we need to keep one thing mind that the Corsa is not using dual-clutch automatic.
The Easytronic gearbox is a manual gearbox with the ability to shift itself, returning 85.6mpg combined economy and 84g/km CO2 emissions, making it one of the most frugal one around.
The low-speed parking is made easier, but the shifting is real slow, as predicted by the use of Easytronic gearbox and it gets really frustrating when you try to get a gap in the traffic at low-speeds.
And when you are at the junctions, you have to try real hard to accelerate up to speed to join the traffic flow.
From the inside, the Corsa is not very distinct from the rest of the range except from the automatic gear and absence of clutch pedal.
For good driving position, it comes with height-adjustable seats. The cabin is very wide and offers great head and legroom, both in the front and back.
On the dash, the heater controls look dated, you also get touch screen IntelliLink system which includes digital radio too.
