With the introduction of 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLS, Mercedes-Benz has completed the renaming of its SUV line-up.
The GLS is the refreshed version of Mercedes’ existing GL-Class and that means company’s largest SUV will be connected to company’s flagship S-Class saloon. It will sit right above the GLA, GLC and GLE models.
The German auto maker is planning to get the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLS on sale next March, with the engine line-up almost identical to the GL-Class.
A 3.0-litre turbodiesel V6 will produce 255bhp which will power the GLS350d, a 3.0-litre twin-turbo petrol V6 producing 362 for the GLS450 and the GLS550 is going to use the 4.7-litre twin-turbo V8 making 449bhp.
All of these models are now mated with a nine-speed automatic gearbox. If you opt for the top-dog Mercedes-AMG GLS63, it uses 5.5-litre twin-turbo V8 producing 577bhp and instead of nine, it uses seven-speed automatic gearbox.
The visual tweaks are minor including a more prominent front grille and a refreshed face with redesigned headlamps. The tail lamps have also been revised along with the sprinkled chrome trim.
On the inside, GLS seven-seat version gets the latest infotainment system ‘Comand’. There is a new steering wheel and the trim finishes are of some different colours. The optional air suspension gets different tuning and the available active safety features also get an improved suite.
The prices for the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLS will start from £42,982 and go up to £80,111 for the GLS63.
The new GLS is going to make its debut in 2015 Los Angeles auto show, a few weeks from now.
