Volvo will debut its XC90 range with an entirely new platform and fuel efficient engines. The range of four-cylinder Volvo engines consists of diesel, petrol and plug-in Hybrid versions and the diesel D5 is without a doubt the pick of the range.
Volvo offers the style, safety and quality features that will rival Audi, BMW, and Land Rover in the SUV segment. The diesel engine is very quiet and offers lots of power and torque, petrol engines also offer refined power and decent poke, but like the plug-in Hybrid T8 powertrain, the four-cylinder engines are set to dominate the market.
Diesel engines are the wisest choice while petrol engines are a real fun with lots of thirst for fuel and shrill sound. The entire range of diesel engines provides decent performance and low rev torque. They are also very decent on carbon emissions and fuel economy.
The Hybrid powertrain can go almost 25 miles on electric only mode. Volvo is working on four-cylinder-only policy, which clearly means slightly higher-pitched engines which are a bit unusual in petrol powered cars.
Diesel engines, on the other hand, have very crispy and refined sound rather than rattling. They are equally smooth and refined to offer strong mid-range performance. The XC90 D5 diesel engine still claims a reasonable 48.7 miles per gallon and carbon emissions of 149g/km while it offers a great price advantage over the T8 models. It is £14,000 lower in price than the T8.
