Tobias Moers, Chief Executive of Mercedes-AMG has recently issued a statement that the next generation hyper hatch, Mercedes-AMG A45, will get more than 400 hp under the hood. This statement has been made last week on the occasion of revealing the updated Mercedes A-Class, he further added that this 400bhp+ will be produced from an all-new four-cylinder engine.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with the current engine which churns out 355bhp, and keeping in view the current needs of the customers, Mercedes has recently put 21 more horses into an already potent turbocharged engine, reaching to 376bhp.
In near future, Volkswagen is launching its super-quick Golf R 400, and in order to give it a tough time, extracting more horses from current engine is not possible, which ultimately lead Mercedes to come up with something even more, barbaric.
Umm… yes! It is kind of possible for the company to do some magic on the engine, like for instance, rejigging the ECU or installing a bigger, mightier turbo perhaps, but according to Moers: “It is important for our customers to have the most powerful car in the segment.”
So instead of tweaking the engines, they went for complete engine redesign, and now they are offering the whole package.
Sadly, the Nurburgring lap times have been banned by the management of the track for all manufacturers but Mercedes has its own ways to do things. So it has been hinted that it will take less than eight minutes to get round the 12.9-mile track with this all new A45. This will make it at least 10 seconds faster than the current A45 AMG, which means, it will put the hyper hatch on par with the SEAT Leon Cupra 280.
CLA and GLA next year will be getting all these visual changes made to standard A-Class, it includes the uprated AMG engines too.
